Parent &
Adolescent Health
Studies show that parents can play a key role in protecting adolescents and young adults from sexual health risks. When mothers or fathers talk with their sons and daughters about sex, children are more likely to delay or abstain from sex and use condoms. This helps prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV.
Given the inequities of HIV in the Black community, the Lab is focused on how we can partner with parents to guide their kids, and our community. To date, there’s been more research done on the role mothers can play in supporting their teens’ sexual health. But we know that fathers play a key role too—especially with their sons. That’s why we’re working on community initiatives to engage fathers, like The Talk.
